First Line BOP
This course is designed primarily for the First Line Supervisor (driller) on a drilling rig and is also a prerequisite for the Second Line Supervisor’s Well Control course.
Topics covered in the four-day course include source and magnitude of pressure, causes and warning signs of kicks, shutting procedures, crew positions and duties during well control operations, procedures for circulating out influxes and government regulations.
At the conclusion of the course, the participant is able to use warning signs to recognize a kick and safely shut-in a well. Upon successful completion of the First Line Supervisor’s Blowout Prevention examination, the participant receives a Enform First Line Supervisor’s Blowout Prevention certificate which is valid for three years.
Note: Students may attend this program up to three (3) months in advance of their certification expiring. Upon successful completion of the program, the student will receive their new certificate dated three (3) years from the expiry date of the old certificate.
Note: The exam can be challenged and rewritten once and, if the student fails, then the student must take the entire four day course. (Fees apply). From the day the exam was written there is a 7 day waiting period between rewriting. Exam challenges, courses and Self Study may be done up to 90 days prior to the expiry of the certificate. If the exam is successfully passed, the new expiry date will expire three years beyond the present certification expiry date.
Well Service Blowout Prevention
This four-day course is aimed at the service rig operators, service rig managers, well site supervisors, field foremen, production foremen and production engineers involved in well killing operations on the service rig.
Topics covered include sources and magnitude of pressures, causes of kicks, BOP equipment, kick warning signs, crew positions and duties, well shut-in procedures, well killing procedures, calculations and government regulations.
Upon successful completion of the Well Service Blowout Prevention examination, the candidate will be issued the required Well Service Blowout Prevention certificate, valid for five (5) years.
Effective January 01, 1999, Well Service Blowout Prevention program standards changed, based on recommendations from the program committee and industry associations:
- Students taking the course for the first time or renewing an expired certificate will be required to attend the full four-day course, complete with the hands-on accumulator function test.
- Students renewing their valid Well Service Blowout Prevention certificate for the first time after five years may challenge the exam or take the Well Service Blowout Prevention correspondence course. If the student fails the exam, the student will be required to attend the full four-day course, complete with the hands-on accumulator function test. No second exam challenges will be allowed. Fees apply.
- If the exam following the course is failed the student is allowed one rewrite within a 30 day period. Rewrite fees apply.
- Well Service Blowout Prevention courses, exam challenges, and Self Study may be done up to 90 days prior to the expiry of the certificate. If the exam is successfully passed the new expiry date will be five years beyond the present certification expiry date.
H2S Alive Training
This one-day course is intended for all workers in the petroleum industry who could be exposed to hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
The course covers the physical properties and health hazards of H2S, how to protect oneself and basic rescue techniques. Each student is required to operate self-contained breathing apparatus, a detector tube device and perform rescue breathing on a mannequin. The course will be taught by a PITS (Petroleum Industry Training Service) instructor.
An industry standard certificate, valid for three years, will be issued upon successful completion of a written examination and demonstration of the required skills. This certificate is required when H2S is likely to be encountered.
